September is Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Month! Commonly referred to as poor circulation, this condition results from restricting blood flow in the arteries of the legs and feet. When the arteries are narrowed by plaque, the oxygen-rich blood traveling through the arteries can’t reach the feet and legs. The occurrence of PAD may be an indication of more extensive arterial disease that can affect the heart, causing a heart attack, or that can affect the brain, causing a stroke.
Most people exhibit no symptoms during the early stages of peripheral artery disease. In many cases, the arteries are already considerably blocked when symptoms are visible.
